German data center and bitcoin mining operator Northern Data is doubling down on its investment in generative AI.
The company said in an announcement on Wednesday that it has procured 384 cabinets of Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s Cray XD supercomputers to expand its generative AI capacities for its cloud customers.
The supply from HP features 8,200 NVIDIA’s H100 Tensor Core GPUs, which is an investment worth more than 330 million euros, or about $362 million, Northern Data said in the release.
The company already purchased 10,000 H100 GPUs in September, according to an announcement at the time. In total, it has spent more than $800 million in getting access to the 18,200 units of NVIDIA equipment.
Northern Data has recently secured a $600 million loan facility from Tether as well as equity investment from the stablecoin issuer.
In addition to the expansion of cloud servicing capacity, Northern Data is building additional bitcoin mining facilities in the U.S. and purchasing bitcoin miners from MicroBT, as previously reported.
