Wang Chun, co-founder of F2Pool, has become the first known Bitcoin hodler to travel to space, joining a four-person crew that launched aboard SpaceX’s Fram2 mission on Monday night.

According to SpaceX, the mission lifted off at 9:46 p.m. ET on March 31 from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. A Falcon 9 rocket carried the Dragon spacecraft into a polar orbit. The launch marked the first human spaceflight for all four crew members, including Wang, who served as mission commander.

An early Bitcoin miner who began mining in 2011, Wang is known for co-founding F2Pool and StakeFish, as well as the habit of meticulously documenting his travel logs. He noted that the Fram2 flight marked his 1,000th trip, continuing his tradition of sequentially logging every journey.

During the multi-day mission, the Fram2 crew is expected to become the first group of astronauts to orbit Earth over both polar regions.

Their objectives include 22 research experiments, ranging from capturing the first x-ray in space to studying muscle retention and growing mushrooms in microgravity. Upon their return, the crew aims to exit the capsule unassisted—part of an effort to test the feasibility of self-managed reentry procedures for future missions.

The Falcon 9’s first stage successfully landed on SpaceX’s droneship A Shortfall of Gravitas, stationed in the Atlantic Ocean.

In addition to Wang, the Fram2 crew includes vehicle commander Jannicke Mikkelsen, vehicle pilot Rabea Rogge, and mission specialist and medical officer Eric Philips.
