There appears to be a rising number of bitcoin miners getting stolen, despite bitcoin’s hashprice not being exactly lucrative and each miner being ultimately traceable due to their unique serial numbers.

Earlier this month, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) said it arrested a 27-year-old man on Jun 27 for allegedly stealing bitcoin miners worth $580,000. Days later, the Baton Rouge Police Department in Louisiana uncovered an abandoned facility where officers found 247 miners worth $850,000 stolen out of McKee, Kentucky.

And now HashHouse, a mining and immersion cooling solution provider, has reported to the LAPD that 880 units of its air-cooled Whatsminers had been stolen during transportation last month. The cargo consisted mainly of M50S++ and some M60s with a total worth of about $3 million.

According to information shared with TheMinerMag, HashHouse imported 880 units of the Whatsminers in 22 pallets which were initially stored in Inglewood, California. The goods were scheduled to be forwarded to Texas but were somehow delivered to a personal storage facility in Los Angeles on June 20, which appeared to be the last known location before they went missing.

This marks the third known miner theft case brought to LAPD this year. In March, the LAPD arrested three men after recovering $7 million worth of stolen bitcoin miners.

In response to the apparent increase in bitcoin miner theft, TheMinerMag has published a stolen miner database page, featuring serial numbers of reported stolen machines. If you have experienced similar issues and do not wish folks in the community to buy stolen miners, feel free to submit relevant information via this form to get the serial numbers published.
